THANK YOU!!

Marlyn Hawkins

Apparently, it’s already been a YEAR since we opened our doors last September!  Time flies when you’re busy and boy, has it flown.  Anyway, I wanted to take this time to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our amazing clients that came with us and all the new clients who have given us a chance to show you what we can do.  Another THANK YOU to all of you wonderful managers who trust us with your clients’ work day in and day out.  We are continuing to grow – slowly and responsibly – so we can meet all of your needs, so keep checking in!  Below are a few of our near-future plans!

WUCIOA Amending & Restating

Future plans involve LOTS of amending and restating to bring people in line with WUCIOA prior to the January 1, 2028 date.  We are already doing quite a few of these, so the process is becoming incredibly streamlined.  We are considering doing the first drafts for a flat fee so that our clients have a good sense of the costs from the beginning.  This is a significant change and a significant project that most clients will have to go through before 2028, so we recommend budgeting for this change now!  If you have the budget and want to stay ahead of the curve, give us a call!  There may still be changes to WUCIOA this year, but we are tracking those, and our documents will accurately reflect the changes.

Project Management

We are also trying to fill the need for quasi-legal project management for our self-managed clients and managers who would like to outsource project work like remediations, loans, insurance claims for leaks or other losses, and harassment investigations.  There are a lot of points in these types of projects where you need legal assistance, but it can be hard to know when to check in.  On the other hand, a lot of it is administrative work, so paying legal fees for that part seems a bit much.  The perfect answer seems to be a legal professional that bills at a much lower rate but has easy access to counsel for the legal points.  We’ll keep you updated when this role is filled!

Federal Reporting

Well, this really isn’t a future plan, but I did want to let you know that while CAI is fighting the good fight to get an exception for community associations, as of now, every community needs to report the names and addresses of the directors by the end of the year.  It really only takes a few minutes to file your report!  Click here for a link to our website, which links to FinCen’s explanatory video.

Again, thanks to all of you who have stuck with us through our transition last year and who trust us with your communities’ legal needs!

New firm, same great service! In 2023, we made a cooperative business decision to separate from Barker Martin to create the “Community Association Law Group” to focus on general counsel advice and services for condominium and HOA communities. So, if you’re looking for the same “focused, responsive, and proven” general counsel representation we provided there, you’ve come to the right place!
